City Pilots

Kunshan

· Urban Design around Yangcheng Lake station

In late 2009, CSTC helped initiate the TOD pilot project around Yangcheng Lake station. In early 2010 CSTC invited international experts and local planning institutions to start an urban design workshop. The workshop introduced the concept, urban demand and management issues of TOD and began the conceptual plan of the site. The project aims at creating a new sustainable landmark for the city of Kunshan, with low-carbon development and cultural continuation.

· Kunshan BRT system

Along with the construction of Shanghai-Ningbo inter-city metro line (opening in 2010), and Beijing-Shanghai high speed rail (2013), Kunshan entered into a new metro stage. Kunshan will need a well-established public transit system and a well-connected rapid transit system between different transit nodes. The improvement of urban living quality and sustainable urban development rely on a healthy public transit system. Since BRT systems are widely used internationally and the results are satisfactory, CSTC work with local and national planning institutions on the feasibility study of BRT in Kunshan. The project has three parts:

  1. Kunshan BRT lines plan
Based on the feasibility study of BRT lines in Kunshan, to propose a BRT lines plan and an implementation plan within 5 years.

  2. Feasibility study of first phase Kunshan BRT lines
To identify the corridor in the first phase, to provide analysis on the implementation feasibility, and based on the demands and stardards of first phase BRT lines to conceptually design the special road lines, platforms, vehicular plans, operation plans and etc.

  3. Traffic design of first phase Kunshan BRT lines
Based on the conceptual design of first phase BRT lines, complete the detail design, operation plan, intelligent transport system, management and organization plan, financial plans and etc.
